Useful Learning Sites/Web Dev Resources
Currently I'm using the following to make this website:
Other learning:
- MuseumLink Illinois I found this through Wiby.me and listen, I just love it so much. It's so good. I hope other people look at it and enjoy it.
- Learn Anything Helps you learn new things and guides you to resources! It makes a web of skills and the resources you'll need to learn them. I think this is a brilliant way of making learning accessible to anyone trying to know where to start.
- Learn Awesome Similar concept to Learn Anything, but not in the web form.
Social Media
I'm a tumblr veteran, but tumblr is slowly losing ground to capitalism, so may I suggest:
Wild and Whacky Fun Stuff
This is not exhaustive, and the majority is not accessible (in that it's old-school web stuff, before most of the accessible web was in place). Lots of flashy stuff, so just be safe with yourself. Flashy stuff will be marked with (F), but I can't check each webpage for screenreader accessibility, sorry!
- ooh! directory This is a list of blogs of all kinds, sorted by topics and interests. I love this, it's a great way to find people to follow. And every site is required to have an RSS/atom feed, which is great, because I follow all the ones I like!
- Minimars' Credits/Resources Page If you want to make a proper insane old web page, go here. (F)
- Plastic Dino's Neocities Buttons/Resources Page (F)
- So Many 88x31 Badges! Seriously, so many. I'm not sure how they found them all to compile them. (F)
- Another set of 88x31 Badges These are just such a wild flashback to the old web, I can't help but love them. (F)
- The Whiteboard An incredibly fun little webcomic about a polar bear who owns a paintball marker repair shop. You do not need to know anything about paintball. It devolves into insane hijinks pretty quickly. Started in 2002, and it's kind of wild to see how society/politics evolved over the years, even in media.
Tiny Web Games
These games are not produced by major companies; they're entirely hosted online or indie AF. I love tiny interactive games!
-
Dracula's Riddle This is an internet puzzle/scavenger hunt. It's not easy, and it will require you to learn new things and use external clues. I find it challenging and fun.
Stuck?
Maybe consider trying this little walkthrough, thanks to Archie!
Alternative Search Engines
With AI ruining Google and many of the major search engines farming data, here's a few fun alternatives:
- Wiby.me This is for the classic web, mostly tiny pages. Love it. (I really suggest trying that 'surprise me' button.)
- Marginalia This pushes image-heavy sites down the rankings, favouring blogs and text-based sites. I love it; I keep finding websites that are run by like, one autistic professor with a hyperfixation, and then I end up learning all about one specific thing for an afternoon. 10/10.
- ooh! directory This isn't really a search engine, but if you're looking for information on a topic, it's worth checking here too. This is a list of blogs of all kinds, sorted by topics and interests. I love this, it's a great way to find people to follow. And every site is required to have an RSS/atom feed, which is great, because I follow all the ones I like!
