My Internet Manifesto
I believe, sincerely, in the following:
- The purpose of the internet is to convey information from one person to another via technology.
- The purpose of the internet is not to make money.
- Information is not owned by any one entity, company, or person, and should never be treated as such.
- Artists, writers, inventors, and others deserve to be paid for their work.
- Hoarding wealth, informational or monetary, is an unethical act.
- Even 'pointless', purposeful information has value.
- Every person has inherent value.
- Every person has art to create and share.
My goal in this site and other sites is to:
- Help to educate and facilitate the open transfer of information through a free and small internet.
- Create alternatives to large internet conglomerations when it comes to access and enjoyment of the internet.
- Respect myself and other artists/internet developers/communicators/inventors by respecting our work and who has created it.
- Respect the privacy of others and myself.
- Shut down bigotry of any kind when it is in my sphere of influence.
- Share my art and promote the art of others.
- Respect everyone who respects others. 1
In order to reach those goals, I promise to:
- Never put advertisements on this site.
- All recommendations will be made at my own discretion.
- Any money made from recommendations will be disclosed upfront with affiliate notices.
- Ban, block, and otherwise shut down hateful voices, including but not limited to:
- Transphobia
- Homophobia
- Misogyny
- Racism of all types
- Discrimination on basis of religion or heritage (antisemitism, Islamophobia, Traveller/Romani predjudices, etc)
- Classism
- Cite sources for the images and references I use.
- Respect the way others present themselves online (referring to others via their online aliases, self-determined pronouns, and other forms of self-identification).
- Be as accessible as I know how to be (with the understanding I am always learning).
- Continue to learn and grow as both a person, artist, and web dev.
- Make art.
- Encourage the art of others.
1 - I have no interest in any justification of tolerating bigotry. I do not believe in the paradox of tolerance; rather I believe that tolerance is a social contract. If someone is intolerant and bigoted, they have broken that contract and I have no obligation to tolerate them.
